Manic Studios – Spin

Australian Workers Film Guide

Summary

From the Fair Go For Billionaires campaign, this satirical commercial features fictional mining magnate Alan Billson sitting in front of his personal tennis court complaining about the spin regarding so called mega profits and how the mining tax is an unjust imposition on billionaires, “What I object to is all the spin. Mega profits, they’re not mega profits, not unless you call tens of millions of dollars mega profits. This new mining tax should be called the tax on ordinary everyday billionaires.” It concludes with the text ‘ABBOTT UNDERSTANDS’, indicating Abbott’s support for billionaire mining magnates.

Fair Go For Billionaires was a CFMEU – Mining & Energy Division campaign opposing Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s promise to repeal the new Resources Tax, thereby diverting tax dollars intended for public purposes back to rich and powerful mining companies.
